Euro 2020 Matchday 11 Previews and Tips

We unfortunately drew a blank on Sunday. Wales were reduced to 10 men after 56 minutes and that cost them any chance of getting an equaliser. Switzerland were far too good for Turkey, as predicted, but unfortunately Embolo’s best chance was spectacularly saved. We have four matches on Euro 2020 Matchday 11 and Russia v Denmark has the potential to be the match of the day. Check out our previews and betting tips below.

Ukraine v Austria

Match Odds: Ukraine 12/5; Draw 21/20; Austria 27/10.

Venue: Bucharest, Romania.

Kick Off Time: 5.00 pm.

A point will suit both of these teams on Monday evening. Ukraine and Austria are 2nd and 3rd respectively in Group C, both with 3 points. With North Macedonia on 0 points in last place, a draw would most likely send both of these teams through to the knockout stages. Ukraine lost their opener 3-2 to the Netherlands but bounced back with a 2-1 win vs North Macedonia. Austria beat those opponents 3-1 in their first match and then fell to a 2-0 loss to the Netherlands.

Will the real Ukraine please stand up? They really struggled for long periods vs Holland but they were arguably unlucky not to take a point after their two goal comeback was thwarted by a late Netherlands winner. Against North Macedonia they looked excellent in the first half but their levels dropped after the break. Austria have struggled for consistency too. They dominated North Macedonia but then they put in a woeful display against The Dutch.

The draw is as short as even money with some bookies and it is by far and away the most likely result. If only the top two teams qualified this match would have been a cracker but unfortunately, neither team is going to risk losing the match. They won’t want to make it look too obvious that they both want the draw so I think there will be a couple of goals. Back the draw and both teams to score at odds of 19/5.

Euro 2020 Matchday 11 Tip: Draw/both teams to score @ 19/5

Euro 2020 Matchday 11: North Macedonia v Netherlands

Match Odds: North Macedonia 11/1; Draw 9/2; Netherlands 1/4.

Venue: Amsterdam, Holland.

Kick Off Time: 5.00 pm.

Two wins from two matches means that, regardless of what happens this evening, the Netherlands have booked their place in the knockout stages as Group C winners. Even a victory wouldn’t be enough for North Macedonia due to their defeats to Ukraine and Austria. They sit rock bottom of the table with 0 points but they can be proud of their performances at their first ever tournament, especially against Ukraine in the second half.

So, for all intents and purposes, this match is a dead rubber. The Netherlands will likely rotate heavily and give gametime to some of their fringe squad members. North Macedonia, although eliminated, will give it their all to try and bow out of Euro 2020 with a bang. Even the Netherlands’ reserve side should have far too much quality for the Macedonians but odds of 1/4 are too short for me. This match makes no appeal as a betting heat so keep that hard earned cash in your pocket.

Euro 2020 Matchday 11 Tip: No Bet

Russia v Denmark

Match Odds: Russia 43/10; Draw 3/1; Denmark 8/11.

Venue: Copenhagen, Denmark.

Kick Off Time: 8.00 pm.

Finally, a match that both teams will be trying to get a result from. Denmark are in dire straits and they know that they have to win this if they are to have any chance of going through as one of the best third placed teams. For Russia, a win would see them through regardless of what happens elsewhere. A draw would also be enough to nick 2nd spot if Finland lose or draw vs Belgium. However, a defeat could see the Russians going home early if the Finns get a result against the Belgians.

It all sounds rather complicated but to put it simply, both teams will want to win this match. The managers will name their strongest sides and on paper, Denmark deserve to be favourites. Judging by their superb performance in their 2-1 loss to Belgium, the Eriksen incident has galvanised this squad. Russia scraped a narrow 1-0 win vs Finland, bouncing back from their 3-0 defeat to Belgium.

So, can the Danes get the win they need against the Russians? Apart from Eriksen, they have a full squad to choose from and if they repeat how they played against Belgium, Russia could be set for a torrid night. The Russians would probably take a draw, although that might be tough for them now that Fernandes and Kudryashov have joined Zhirkov on the treatment table. I think Denmark will overwhelm the Russians and secure the win they need to give themselves a chance of qualifying. I am backing Denmark -1 at odds of 2/1.

Euro 2020 Matchday 11 Tip: Denmark -1 @ 2/1

Euro 2020 Matchday 11: Finland v Belgium

Match Odds: Finland 11/1; Draw 4/1; Belgium 1/3.

Venue: St Petersburg, Russia.

Kick Off Time: 8.00 pm.

Belgium need just a point to lock up top spot in the group. Finland currently sit in 2nd spot with 3 points, level with Russia. If Denmark beat Russia, they are guaranteed 2nd. If the Russians equal or better Finland’s result, they will leapfrog them into 2nd and Finland will have to hope they sneak through as one of the best third placed sides.

The Belgians barely had to come out of third gear to beat Russia first time up. It was a different story vs Denmark though. They fell 1-0 behind and were under all sorts of pressure but a couple of moments of De Bruyne magic saw them fight back for an unlikely 2-1 win. The Finns were fortunate to get their 1-0 win vs Denmark but they only lost narrowly to Russia and they’ll defend for their lives tonight to try and get the point they need.

Amazingly, Belgium haven’t beaten Finland since 1968 (7 matches). The last time they met was in a friendly back in 2016 and it ended 1-1. They were drawn in the same qualifying group for Euro 2008 and Finland won the home tie 1-0 and drew 0-0 in Belgium. On paper, Belgium, the world’s number one ranked team, should hammer Finland. However, the Finns are a stubborn bunch and they’ll have no qualms about packing their defence and defending in numbers. At the end of the day, both managers would take a point gladly so that’s where my money is going. I am backing the draw at odds of 4/1.

Euro 2020 Matchday 11 Tip: Draw @ 4/1
