Friday Evening Baltic Sea Darts Open Tips

James Punt made a rock solid start this afternoon in Germany. Two winners at odds of 2.00 and 2.50 from just three bets ensured we made a profitable start and he is back to do more damage tonight. Check out James’ Friday Evening Baltic Sea Darts Open tips below.

Ryan Miekle vs. Lukas Wenig

The Barber is playing some good stuff and has won seven of his last ten matches. He is the kind of improving player who will be looking to have some good runs on the Euro Tour, and he made a quarter final last year.

Wenig has played in quite a few Euro Tour events and he has a good A game, but he lacks consistency. He has also won seven of his last ten matches. Wenig played in six Euro Tour events last year and only won two matches and only one first round match. He did beat Chris Dobey and averaged over 100 in that match which shows his potential, but Miekle should be too good for him nine times out of ten.

William O’Connor vs. Stephen Bunting

O’Connor is struggling for form, losing six of his last ten matches and averaging 89.9 for the year.

Bunting is averaging 94.5 for the season and has won six of his last ten matches. His scoring has dropped a little recently, but he was good enough to reach the quarter final in Sunday’s Players Championship.

O’Connor has a 6-2 H2H record against Bunting, which is surprising, but on current form, Bunting has to be fancied to improve his record against The Magpie.

Bunting is the 1.50 favourite but I’ll try him on the handicap.

Florian Hempel vs. Richard Veenstra

Hempel is struggling a bit in 2023, averaging 88.4 and losing four of his six matches. He finished 2022 winning the German Super League but since then, half his matches have seen sub 90 averages.

Veenstra spent last weekend mostly getting beaten by Daryl Gurney. They met three times, once in Players Championship 4 and then twice in Euro Tour qualifiers. Superchin won all three, but Veenstra averaged 102 and 98.1 in the two qualifiers and he has been playing well since he won his tour card in January. He reached the quarter final of PC 2, and he has taken a few decent scalps. He is averaging 91.7 but in six of his last ten he has averaged over 97.

Veenstra is playing the better darts and unless Hempel can rediscover his form, the Dutchman should win.

James Wade vs. Raymond van Barneveld

The crowd are getting some great matches for a Euro Tour Friday. Two of the games big beasts and they have met 47 times, with 23 wins for Barney and 22 for Wade (+three draws). They only met once last year and RVB won 6-3.

Barney is in good form, winning seven of his last ten matches and Wade has won six of his last ten, but his consistency is leaving a bit to be desired. That makes him hard to predict and while my first instinct was that Barney is the call, he is only 1.91 to do so, and that is a bit short. No bet.

Gabriel Clemens vs. Daryl Gurney

Perhaps the most interesting match of the day. I guess neither player will have been happy with the draw as both could be fancied to have a good run. Not only do they both face a tough first round opponent, but the winner gets to play the number 1 seed, Luke Humphries in the second round.

This will be Clemens first match at home since he reached the semi-final of the World Championship. Some sort of hero’s welcome will be in order and he will have the advantage of the crowd on his side. Some German crowds can be a bit of handful. Clemens was runner up in PC3 last Saturday but was thrashed 1-8 by Kim Huybrechts. What that will have done for his confidence is open to question. It was good to reach the final, but it was his seventh defeat in a final.

Both On Form

Both players are in good form with Clemens winning seven of his last ten, Gurney eight. Both have a 12 month average of 92.8. Their H2H record is interesting. 7-1 to Clemens. For two players so closely matched, you would expect Superchin to have won more. On the Euro Tour it is 1-1, which looks better for our man.

There have been encouraging signs that Daryl Gurney is returning to form. Three of his last five matches saw him average over the ton and he looks a much better player than was on show last year. This will be a tough test for him, he will be aware of his record against the German and he has a crowd to deal with. The latter is not a problem, the former certainly is.

The market is making Daryl Gurney the 1.87 favourite with Clemens 2.00, despite that H2H record. I will sit on the fence and go for a close match. The winner? I do not know.

Friday Evening Baltic Sea Darts Open tips: 1 point over 9.5 legs @ 1.91 with Ladbrokes, Boylesports

Steve Beaton vs. Adrian Lewis

Adrian Lewis may be the hardest player to call in darts. He has won six of his last ten matches, had three ton plus averages and three sub 87s. Steve Beaton has won five of his last ten but scores more consistently, with just one sub 90, but he doesn’t score has heavily as Lewis.

If Lewis brings his A game he should win, but a sub 90 day and Beaton is very much in the game. Their H2H record is 13-6 to Lewis, but it is Lewis who won their last ten in a row and Steve has not got one over Lewis since 2012!

Lewis is the 1.57 favourite, Beaton 2.50. Given their H2H record that looks right, but Lewis is too inconsistent to be backing at short odds on. No bet.
