Day 4 Glorious Goodwood Preview

After the first three days we have had at Goodwood, I’m starting to wish I was previewing Galway instead. Okay, Rawdaa at 10s and The Cashel Man both placed, but bar Wheels On Fire most of our tips have run horribly. Goodwood is a track that can be tough to work out, especially with Mark Johnston running 3 or 4 in some races. Anyway, thankfully there are only two days of torture left, so check out Dave Stevos free Goodwood Day 4 tips below…

Goodwood Day 4 Tips: 1.50 Oak Tree Stakes (Group 3)

First up on Friday is an absolute minefield of a 7F Group 3 for fillies and mares. A low draw is a big plus in races like this and at a massive price, Lyzbeth could go well for each way backers. Martyn Meade really rates this filly and connections believe she has the potential to be a Group horse.

Meade doesn’t usually step his horses up in class unless he thinks they can be competitive. This daughter of Zoffany’s win last time at Doncaster (7f gd) has really worked out. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th all won next time out and she beat them all easily. That was just her second start, so there could be plenty more improvement to come. At 28/1, Lyzbeth is the each way selection.

Goodwood Preview Friday: 2.25 – Thoroughbred Stakes (Group 3)

Limited to 3yo horses yet to score at Group 1 level, this 8f Group 3 has attracted a field of nine. Duke of Hazzard was ultra impressive when beating Momkin easily last time and he looks a worthy favourite at 3/1. Plenty of unexposed types take him on though, including Turjomaan, Art Du Val, and Biometric.

Those three have already won 9 races between them (10 if you include when Turjomaan was disqualified at Ascot). However, on a line through Turgenev Biometric is safely held on these terms by Duke Of Hazzard. Turjomaan could be the biggest danger, while Old Glory has snippets of form that would give him a squeak. However, Duke Of Hazzard was so good last time he looks hard to oppose. He is the selection at odds of 10/3.

Goodwood Day 4 Tips: 3.00 – Golden Mile Handicap (Class 2)

This twenty runner handicap is run over a trip of 8f and the one I like at a huge price is Zhui Feng. This son of Invincible Spirit loves it at Goodwood and Martin Dwyer is back in the saddle for the first time this season. He was in the plate for Zhui Feng’s last two wins and he gets on really well with him.

A rating of 101 looks more than workable on his superb effort behind Ripp Orf off 106 at Royal Ascot last season. He ran his best race of 2019 over 7f here on his seasonal return in May. The way he finished off the race suggested that an extra furlong would suit and he gets that here. He has a nice enough draw in stall 7, Amanda Perrett’s horses are running well and at 25/1 (6 places) he is my e/w NAP bet of the day.

Goodwood Racing Preview: 3.35 – King George Qatar Stakes (Group 2)

Friday’s feature at Goodwood is the King George, a 5f Group 2 for sprinters aged 3yo or older. Battaash hacked up in this in 2017 and 2018 and he is a short price to repeat the dose. He looked as good as ever when chasing home Blue Point at Ascot and he has had a nice break since. He is a best price of 1/3 at the moment and he does look very difficult to oppose.

However, with nine runners there is an opportunity for each way punters and Rumble Inthejungle could go well with Frankie booked. I fancied him to run well on his seasonal return but it looked like it was badly needed. He hosed up in a Group 3 here last season and ran really well behind Ten Sovereigns in the Group 1 Middle Park. That form gives him solid place claims in this field and at 18/1, he could outrun his odds.

GOODWOOD TIPS FRIDAY: RUMBLE INTHEJUNGLE E/W @ 18/1 NB
