Night 7 Premier League Darts Preview
Last week Gary Anderson took us all by surprise and won Night 6. It was a badly needed result for the Flying Scotsman, can he repeat the dose in Rotterdam? Check out James Punt’s Night 7 Premier League Darts tips and preview below.
Peter Wright vs. James Wade
What can be made of Peter Wright’s form? Since withdrawing from the second euro tour event two weeks ago, Wright has played four matches and lost three. His only win was a 6-4 win over Joe Cullen in last week’s PL, in which Wright averaged just 87. He played better against Gary Anderson in the semi-final but lost 3-6. At the weekend’s Players Championship, he averaged 99 but lost to Andrew Gilding, who played very well, and lost his other first round match on Sunday, 2-6 to Steve West, averaging just 81.7. I really have no idea which version of Wright turns up tonight.
James Wade’s Form is not exactly clear either. Like Wright he has lost five of his last ten matches. He has played Wright twice in this year’s PL and won one and lost one.
Their H2H record could not be closer, both winning 22 of their 45 matches, with one draw. You must go back to 2019 to find the last time one of them won back-to-back matches against the other. Wade lost their last match, so it is his turn to win.
Wade is the 1.47 favourite to win, Wade 2.75.
This looks to be a dodgy match, but Wade looks the better value at the odds.

Gary Anderson vs. Joe Cullen
Anderson hit a purple patch last week, winning last week’s PL and then reaching the final of PC 5, losing 6-8 to Damon Heta. He then had his customary Sunday off and lost his first-round match in PC6 to Darius Labanauskas 1-6, averaging just 79. Gary doesn’t do Sundays, so I would ignore that effort. His last ten matches have him seen hit eight ton plus averages. Top form.
Joe Cullen has won seven of his last ten but lost 3-7 to Anderson in the semi-final of PC5. His form is OK but a bit inconsistent. Overall, their H2H record is 9-5 to Anderson, but Cullen has lost five of their last six matches.
Anderson is the 1.73 favourite, Cullen 2.20. If Anderson remains in good form, he wins. They have played 10 best of eleven format matches and seven of them have seen under10 legs.

Jonny Clayton vs. Gerwyn Price
Another match where fitness is an issue. Price had a hand injury which forced him to pull out of the PL two weeks ago, but he returned last week and beat MVG 6-4, averaging 106.66. However, he then lost 4-6 to Michael Smith and averaged just 86.2 in the process. Price did not play in last week’s players championship events which suggests he is protecting his injured hand. In fact, Price has only played two matches in nearly three weeks.
Jonny Clayton has won six of his last ten matches but continues to be a bit inconsistent by his standards. There were three ton plus averages in his last ten, but also a couple of sub-90’s and he is hard to place right now.
Their H2H record is 12-8 to Price, but Clayton has won three of their last four.
Price is the 1.75 favourite, which is fair enough if his fitness was not open to doubt. Clayton is the 2.10 outsider, but I will swerve this match due to the uncertainty around Price’s fitness.

Michael van Gerwen vs. Michael Smith
MVG was back to his best when winning on the Euro Tour a couple of weeks ago and winning back-to-back PL nights. Cries of ‘he’s back’ where silenced last week when he lost 4-6 to Price and then lost his second-round match at PC5 to Gary Anderson and went home, not playing on Sunday. He has won eight of his last ten matches but lost two of his last three. Tonight’s venue is the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam and MVG will have massive support. MVG has played six PL matches in Rotterdam and won four.
Their H2H record is 34-10 to MVG and Van Gerwen has won both of their matches in this year’s PL, 6-4 and 6-2.
Smith has won six of his last ten matches and from failing to score a single point in the first three weeks of PL action, he has won five matches in the last three weeks and been runner up for the last two weeks. Facing a resurgent Van Gerwen in Rotterdam will be a tough gig and Smith does tend to struggle against him.
MVG is the 1.54 favourite, Smith 2.50.
