Saturday Afternoon Belgian Darts Open Tips

James Punt got his biggest winner of the weekend to date yesterday. Kim Huybrechts won 6-4, advised at 6.00. Our 100/1 ante-post pick Ross Smith advanced too so it was a good day. Check out James’ Saturday Afternoon Belgian Darts Open Tips below.

Damon Heta vs. Rusty-Jake Rodriguez

It is always difficult deciding what to do in a match featuring Damon Heta. He is an enigma. The third highest average over the last 12 months and a very healthy 69% win rate, yet he is a bit of an under achiever. Not in the same way as say, Chris Dobey, but Heta doesn’t get the return from his game that he should.

In his two years with a tour card, he has picked up two floor titles and just one euro tour semi-final. He has lost eight of his last ten matches but has by and large, played very well in those matches. He has played 22 euro tour matches and won 11, falling at the first fence five times. All the stats say he should win almost every match he plays, but the results are not really there.

Comfortable Win

Rusty-Jake beat Jeff Smith quite comfortably yesterday. He won 6-3 and hit 6 maximums but he only had two legs of 15 darts and under and it was a modest performance. He has won six of his last ten matches, but only occasionally does he show the kind of form needed to beat a player of Heta’s ability.

The head says Heta wins, he is the better player, but you would get poor backing him on a regular basis as he nearly always starts as the short price favourite but has a 50% win rate in Europe. Here he starts as the 1.30 favourite which is just too low given his recent form and euro tour record. Is Rusty good enough to beat him? He should do occasionally but odds of 3.50 look about right.

Heta is ranked 9th for 180s per leg and if Rusty-Jake can keep on nailing the maximums like he did yesterday, we should see a decent amount across the match.

Saturday Afternoon Belgian Darts Open Tip: 1 point over 5.5 180’s @ 1.91 with Ladbrokes

Gabriel Clemens vs. Ryan Meikle

There are no such worries when considering Clemens. His ET record is dire, and he is automatically opposed, especially when he is the favourite.

Saturday Afternoon Belgian Darts Open Tip: 1 point Ryan Meikle to win @ 2.20 with SpreadEx

Martin Schindler vs. Karel Sedlacek

The Bank of Evil Charlie didn’t pay us out yesterday, but he still won his match 6-4 against a local qualifier who upped his game in front of the home fans. He now faces the tougher task of beating Schindler. The German is having a good season but isn’t quite at his best at the moment. That said, he is usually very strong in his opening matches, scoring well even if defeated. He is the 1.47 favourite and I’ll take him to cover the handicap.

Saturday Afternoon Belgian Darts Open Tip: 1 point Martin Schindler to win -1.5 legs @ 1.73 with Ladbrokes, Betfred

Ryan Searle vs. Bradley Brooks

Given the fact that Searle has lost his last five matches, all with sub 90 averages, he has to be opposed. Bam Bam beat the woeful Chris Dobey 6-5 last night in a very poor match. He only averaged 82 and will have to up his game, but if Searle continues to struggle, he has a decent chance of making the final day.

The last time they met was in August and Searle won 6-3, but he was playing well than. Searle has lost his last four matches 3-6 and in his last 12 best of 11 matches, only 1 went beyond nine legs.

Saturday Afternoon Belgian Darts Open Tip: 1 point under 9.5 legs @ 1.62 with Boylesports, Betfred
Saturday Afternoon Belgian Darts Open Tip: 0.5 point Brookes to win 6-3 @ 15.00 with Betfred

Jose de Sousa vs. Ross Smith

Smudger was the player of the first round, averaging 100.8 in a 6-2 defeat of Steve Beaton. When he is good, he is very good and hopefully he can keep it up against a De Sousa who is inconsistent. He is not the same player he was a couple of years ago, but he still has matches of great quality.

Smith has 4-3 H2H record against De Sousa but he starts as the 2.25 outsider. There is a bit of value on the Englishman there, but as we have backed him outright for the tournament, I’ll stick.

Saturday Afternoon Belgian Darts Open Tip: No Bet

Dave Chisnall vs. Jelle Klassen

Chizzy is one of the form players coming into this event, winning seven of his last ten matches. He has won all of his opening ET matches in 2022, and six of his eight second round matches.

Klassen has a 12-8 H2H record against Chizzy which is a surprise. However, Chizzy has won four of their last six and most of that H2H form is old and was back when Klassen was a better player than he is now. He beat Chizzy five times in a row back in 2017, but he doesn’t even have a tour card these days. He has lost six of his last ten matches and nine of those were on the Challenge Tour.

Chisnall is the 1.29 favourite but I’ll take a chance with a -2.5 handicap.

Saturday Afternoon Belgian Darts Open Tip: 1 point Chisnall to win -2.5 legs @ 1.95 with Betfred

Dirk van Duijvenbode vs. Merv King

These two have never met before but Dirk starts as the 1.36 favourite which is about right. He can be a bit nervous in his opening matches which is enough to make me leave this alone, but as he is one of our ante post selections, I am optimistic that he will overcome King. However, Merv has won seven of his last ten and will be no pushover.

Saturday Afternoon Belgian Darts Open Tip: No Bet

Nathan Aspinall vs. Jamie Hughes

Yozza had four legs of 15 darts or less in his 6-3 defeat of Vincent van der Voort. We had backed over 9.5 legs and at 3-3 it looked nailed on, but Hughes broke throw and moved up a gear to take three in a row. He was 40% on the doubles and that is encouraging. No 180s was a surprise and there is room for improvement, but as he says, he is work in progress as he rebuilds after his elbow injury.

Frustrating

Nathan Aspinall has been a frustrating player to follow recently. His win rate in 2022 is 74% but a bit like Heta, he doesn’t convert that into enough tournament wins. He has lost four of his last ten matches. He has lost three ET semi-finals in 2002 which sort of sums it up.

Aspinall has a 3-1 H2H record with Hughes but Hughes won their only euro tour match 6-5 back in 2019. Aspinall has only lost one of his opening Euro tour matches in 2022 and while Yozza makes some appeal at 2.75, I’d want to see a few more good performances before saying he will beat Aspinall who does win a lot of matches, just not enough big ones.
