Saturday Night European Darts GP Preview

One more darts preview this weekend, James Punt is hoping to find some more winners. Check out his Saturday Night European Darts GP tips below.

Andrew Gilding vs. Raymond van Barneveld

Barney has a 5-4 H2H record over Gilding but they have played just one match since 2015. Gilding won that 6-3 back in March. He is in good form, winning seven of his last ten matches. He has played five second round matches this season and won just one.

Barney overcame the slow play of Maendl-Lawrence last night and he put in a good performance, averaging 98.11 with 60% on the doubles. He has played five second round matches in this year’s Euro Tour and lost the lot. Overall, he has lost five of his last ten matches and his consistency has been lacking.

Two players who have struggled to get beyond the second round but Gilding is playing a little better than Barney at the minute.

Nathan Aspinall vs. Jose de Sousa

The Asp has had Jose’s number in recent matches, winning the last four. He has won seven of his eight second round matches in 2023 and won five of his last ten. He has had a bit of a break to freshen up after the premier league and it will be interesting to see how he goes.

Jose was not great in his 6-5 win over Nico Kurz yesterday. It was a sub 90 average and he hasn’t won a second round match on the Euro Tour this season.

Luke Humphries vs. Chris Dobey

Chris Dobey was dire in last night’s 6-4 win over Graham Hall. An 84.2 average and no less than 18 missed doubles. He was lucky that Hall was equally as bad. He has won five of his last ten matches and last night’s performance was a real outlier. Hollywood will play better.

Humphries was very impressive at last weekend’s Players Championship events and he has won six of his last ten matches. He has won all of his second round matches so far in Europe. He is 8-6 vs. Dobey and the 1.73 favourite to improve on that. We have backed him outright and this is a match, a tricky match, that he must convert. That is enough for me. No bet.

Martin Schindler vs. Gabriel Clemens

Germany will get one man through to Sunday, but which one? Schindler is not in good form, losing six of his last ten matches, but his scoring has been reasonable. He has lost four of his eight second round matches.

Clemens won a dire match with Lee Evans 6-4 last night. It was one of the worst displays of doubling from both players and they missed 48 between them. He has won six of his last ten matches and like Schindler, he has been scoring well enough on the whole.

Their H2H record is 4-4 but Clemens has won four of their last five. The last five have all been over 9.5 legs and it has that feel about it.

Dimitri van den Bergh vs. Krzysztof Ratajski

Ratajski got a late call up and took full advantage by beating Graham Usher 6-3 and averaging 107.37. He has yet to win a second round match this season and he hasn’t been a model of consistency recently, losing six of his last ten matches. His H2H record with Dimitri is poor at 4-10 and he has won just one of their last seven matches.

Van den Bergh has won seven of his last ten matches but six have seen sub 92 averages, so that is not great form. Clearly, if Ratajski can keep up something like yesterday’s form he wins, but that is easier said than done.

Dimitri is the drifting 1.83 favourite with Krzysztof 2.00. The Polish Eagle is tempting, but that H2H record is enough to say no bet.

Saturday Night European Darts GP tips: No Bet

That is all from me for this event, so fingers crossed for our four selections. Daryl Gurney and Chisnall are already through to tomorrow and hopefully Humphries and Cullen can join them.
