Saturday Racing Newbury Tips: ITV4 Races Previewed

Tips and Preview of All ITV4 Live Races At Newbury

We returned to action with a whimper at Gowran on Wednesday. Annie Fior fell out of the stalls and lost any chance she had at the start. She did try to get back into it but it was a fruitless effort and she ended up well beaten. Hopefully our selections break better at Newbury tomorrow. Dave Stevos has previewed all four live ITV4 races. Check out his free Saturday Newbury Racing Tips below…

Saturday Racing Newbury Tips: 1.50 Denford Stakes (Listed)

Only 6 will line up at the start for this 7f contest for 2yos, four colts and a pair of fillies. The girls get a 5lb allowance but the bookies reckon it won’t be enough for them to topple the favourite, Juan Elcano. Kevin Ryan’s son of Frankel ran a blinder in Group 2 company at Newmarket last time (7f gd/fm). It will be a lot softer today. However, he won on debut on heavy ground so that should not be an issue.

He is a best price of even money but it would be no surprise if he ended up odds on. Is there anything in the field that can beat him? On the forecast ground, last time out winner Frankel’s Storm could give him something to think about. She ran well on good ground at Thirsk on her second start after a poor debut. However, heavy ground seemed to really suit her last time at Carlisle just 4 days ago.

She hacked up by 8L over a mile and the drop back to 7f shouldn’t be an issue. That was a weak race, but she had a next time out winner behind her at Thirsk so she certainly has ability. Whether it will be enough to overturn the fav is debateable, but at odds of 14/1 she could give it a good go from the front on ground she will handle.

Newbury Preview Friday: 2.25 – Geoffrey Freer Stakes (Group 3)

Only five go to post for this 13.5f Group 3 and Morando is the one to beat back on his beloved soft ground. He has been running in much hotter company than this and his backers will hope he returns to the form of his easy ground wins at Newbury (12f) and Chester (13.5f). His 8L defeat of Kew Gardens at Chester was impressive and a repeat of that would probably suffice here.

However, horses can lose a bit of confidence when they aren’t running well and if that is the case, Technician could be the one to be on. Martyn Meade’s son of Mastercraftsman loves to get his toe in and he will relish conditions at Newbury. His excellent effort behind Bangkok would give him a squeak and his pedigree suggests that he has a good chance of getting the trip. At odds of 8/1 he is the each way pick.

Saturday Racing Newbury Tips: 3.00 – Unibet Handicap (Class 3)

Only eight runners declared for this Class 3 Handicap and Ripp Orf could be vulnerable on soft ground. All his wins have come on good to firm. While he has performed well on easy ground he is by far most effective on a sound surface. At odds of 5/2 he could be worth taking on and one that could go well at a decent price is Pattie.

Danny Tudhope rides and this filly is finally back down to a workable mark. She is only 2lb above her last winning rating and she has been shaping like she is on the way back to form in her recent races. Her run here over a mile on good to soft off 92 was a fine one. She was hampered at a crucial time and was only 4L behind the winner. Pattie was slowly away last time and was still only 3L behind the winner and at odds of 12/1, she looks well worth chancing each way.

SATURDAY RACING NEWBURY TIPS: PATTIE E/W @ 12/1 NB

Newbury Racing Preview: 3.35 – King George Qatar Stakes (Group 2)

The race of the day at Newbury is the Hungerford Stakes and my NAP of the day runs in this. Regular readers might remember that I tipped up Donjuan Triumphant last time at Goodwood. The rain that was forecast didn’t get into the ground and also, he went way too fast early on. He was going backwards when hampered a furlong out so the interference didn’t cost him.

He is a far better horse with juice in the ground and it should be soft at the very least for this race. Andrew Balding’s charge ran well here in the Hackwood last month (6f gd/sft) and Balding may have had this race in mind ever since. I think 12/1 is far too big and Donjuan Triumphant looks a cracking each way bet in a wide open looking race.

NEWBURY TIPS FRIDAY: DONJUAN TRIUMPHANT E/W @ 12/1 NAP
