Tottenham vs Man Utd Preview and Betting Tips

The big match in the Premier League this weekend is Tottenham vs Man Utd. It kicks off at 17.30 on Saturday evening and it is live on Sky Sports. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side lost their last Premier League outing 1-0 at West Ham. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under massive pressure after an embarrassing 5-0 horror show vs Liverpool. The bookies make the home side the 2..90 underdogs and Utd are chalked up at 2.42. Will Spurs hammer the final nail into Solskjaer’s coffin, or can the Norwegian pull a rabbit out of the hat? It is an intriguing game for multiple reasons, check out our preview below.

Tottenham

It has been a mixed bag for Santo’s Spurs so far this season. They have been an all or nothing side in the Premier League. They have won five and lost four and they have yet to draw. Spurs fans are not enamoured with Santo’s vision and they would prefer to see a more expansive style. However, Tottenham aren’t in a bad position in the table (6th with 15 points) and if they can win this, they could move into the Top 4 if other results go their way.

Spurs have a decent record at home in the EPL this season. They have won three of their four games, including a 1-0 opening day victory vs Man City. Their sole defeat came against title contenders Chelsea by an emphatic 3-0 scoreline. In their last home fixture they beat Aston Villa 2-1 and it was arguably their best display of the season. They had 56% possession, eight shots on target and they missed at least three great chances.

The fact that they are 5th is impressive when you consider how poor Harry Kane has been. His failure to engineer a move to Man City has clearly had a negative effect. Kane has netted just 1 goal from 8 games and he has the same number of assists. Son has been their main source for goals with four and he has looked as good as ever. If Santo can coax his talisman back to form, Spurs will be a tough test for any team. Man Utd supporters will be hoping his slump continues on Saturday.

Man Utd

Well, what can you say after that absolute shit show at Old Trafford last week? Man Utd produced their worst display in living memory against Liverpool and they were lucky to escape with a 5-0 loss. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a dead man walking now and it is a matter of when and not if he gets the bullet. That loss saw Utd drop to 7th in the table with 14 points and they have now picked up 1 point from the last 12 available in the Premier League.

Their last away game saw their record breaking unbeaten run on the road come to a shuddering halt. Leicester tore them apart at times in that 4-2 defeat and it was a sign of things to come. So what now for Utd? Has Solskjaer lost all support from his players? It sure as hell looked like that last Sunday. Pogba was sent off after coming on at half time, Ronaldo should have been red carded too and some of the body language on show from the likes of Bruno, Greenwood and also Ronaldo was a disgrace.

This team looks way worse than last season so what has changed? Well, signing a 36 year old who is unable to press or close the opposition down  was never going to work well, especially in a league like the EPL. When you combine that with the failure to sign a quality defensive midfielder, it is a recipe for disaster. Whichever manager comes in next is going to have a huge problem with CR7 around. He could still be useful as a late impact sub but if Utd are to progress into title challengers, they have to realise he is not capable of starting every match.

Tottenham vs Man Utd Possible Lineups

Tottenham: Lloris, Reguilon, Romero, Dier, Emerson, Skipp, Hojbjerg, Son, Ndombele, Moura, Kane.

Man Utd: De Gea, Wan Bissaka, Maguire, Varane, Shaw, Fred, McTominay, Rashford, Bruno, Cavani, Ronaldo.

Tottenham vs Man Utd Betting Tip

It is impossible to fancy Man Utd after last weekend’s shambolic display. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has managed to pull off some vital wins in the past when he needed them most but this feels different. His team downed tools at Old Trafford and once a manager loses the support of his players, it is very hard to come back. The 2.90 about Spurs winning looks well worth taking.

Stuart Attwell will referee this match and he has shown 15 yellow cards in his last five matches and 10 yellows (5 per game) the last two times he has taken charge of Spurs. We backed Oliver Skipp to be shown a yellow earlier this season but it was one of only two games he hasn’t started. He has racked up 4 bookings from just 7 starts and the 4.20 about him to be shown another card on Saturday looks overly generous.

Tottenham vs Man Utd Betting Tips: Tottenham to win @ 2.90; Oliver Skipp to be carded @ 4.20
