Tips and Preview of All ITV Live Races At York

Frankel’s Storm and Donjuan Triumphant let us down badly at the weekend. However, our other two tips at Newbury on Saturday made up for the disappointment. Technician won cosier than the winning distance suggests and he looks a stayer with a future. He was advised e/w at 8/1 and won at 10/1. Pattie hung on grimly for the win under a great ride from Gerald Mosse. Advised e/w NB at 12/1, she won at 9/2. The Ebor meeting starts at York tomorrow and it promises to be a thrilling few days. Dave Stevos is hoping to keep the good run going, check out his York Ebor Meeting Day-1 Tips below…

York Ebor Meeting Day-1 Tips: 1.55 Handicap (Class 2)

A maximum field of 22 go to post for this 5.5f handicap sprint and the one I like at a decent price is Marnie James. This 4yo son of Camacho isn’t exactly the most consistent, as his form figures indicate. However, when he is on song he is a serious horse and he often saves his best for York. His best run this season came here over 5f in May, beaten a length by Copper Knight off 104 (5f gd/fm).

Marnie James is now rated 100 after three poor efforts since and he has been freshened up by Jedd O’Keefe. O’Keefe is in scintillating form with 5 winners from his last 11 runners. The booking of Spencer catches the eye too (3 wins and 6 seconds from 15 rides for O’Keefe). The drying ground will suit, he looks on a decent mark now and at 20/1 Marnie James is the each way selection.

YORK EBOR MEETING DAY-1: MARNIE JAMES E/W @ 20/1 (5 PLACES) NAP

York Preview wednesday: 2.25 – Acomb Stakes (Group 3)

The first Group race of the week is the G3 Acomb Stakes, a 7f contest for 2yo fillies, colts and geldings. Some very promising, unexposed types will go to post and Persuasion is the favourite for Hills and Doyle. He is 1/1, winning his maiden in impressive style at Goodwood. He is clearly a promising type and he is beautifully bred, by Acclamation and out of a Galileo mare that is a half sister to Hitchens. However, York is a very different track to Goodwood and 4/1 looks about the right price.

The one I like at big odds here is Ropey Guest. I have tipped this fella up on his last two starts and he just missed out on place money on both occasions. He is the most exposed in the field, but his Ascot run behind Arizona is one of the strongest pieces of form in this race. Oh Purple Reign franked the form of his 3rd at Ascot last time, winning a class 2 contest at Chester next time out. George Margarson’s son of Cable Bay looks overpriced at 25/1 and he is the each way pick.

YORK EBOR MEETING DAY-1: ROPEY GUEST E/W @ 25/1

York Ebor Meeting Day-1: 3.00 – Great Voltigeur Stakes (Group 2)

The Group 2 Great Voltigeur is a 12f race for 3yo colts and geldings. Only five horses will line up at the start but it is still a cracking race. Logician has looked the real deal on his first three starts and he hosed up off 90 in a 12f handicap at Newbury last time. That made it 3 wins from 3 for the son of Frankel and he falls into the could be anything category. This represents a huge step up in class though and he looks short enough at 5/4.

At the prices, Nayef Road could be the one to be on. Mark Johnston’s hardy son of Galileo beat Constantinople fair and square at Goodwood. However, the O’Brien horse is a best price of 9/4 while Nayef Road is 11/2 with one firm. That looks completely wrong to me and on that Goodwood form they should be closer in the betting. I don’t think the 3lb swing in the weights will be enough for Constantinople to reverse the form. The value definitely lies with Nayef Road and a win bet is advised.

YORK EBOR MEETING DAY-1: NAYEF ROAD WIN @ 11/2 NB

York Racing Preview: 3.35 – Juddmonte International Stakes (Group 1)

The feature race on the opening day of the Ebor festival is the Group 1 Juddmonte. Nine will go to post and Crystal Ocean is the one to beat. This son of Sea The Stars has progressed with every run this season. He pushed superstar filly Enable all the way at Ascot, only going down by a neck. There is nothing of her quality in this contest and the drop back in trip to 10f is not a worry. He has form figures of 112113 over the distance and if he is at his best, he should win.

King Of Comedy looks interesting stepping up in trip after his fine effort behind Circus Maximus at Ascot. He stayed on really well that day (8f) and he could reverse the form with that rival here over 2f further. The drop back in trip may not suit Japan who has looked like a Leger horse in the making. At a huge price, Cheval Grand could go well for Japanese trainer Yasuo Tomomichi.

He likely needed the run at Ascot last time behind Enable when he shaped okay despite being some way behind the winner. His Dubai Sheema Classic 2nd was a fine effort and a repeat of that would give him place claims. He is the 3rd highest rated in the race (119) and this 2017 Japan Cup winner could run a big race. Crystal Ocean should win, but at odds of 33/1 and with Oisin Murphy in the plate, Cheval Grand could give each way backers a run for their money.

YORK TIPS Wednesday: CHEVAL GRAND E/W @ 33/1
