2020 Goodwood Day 3 Tips For Live ITV Races

I was cursing at the screen watching Just Hubert win the 1.45 on Wednesday. We had backed him on his last two starts but I didn’t keep the faith. Its’afreebee was disappointing. King’s Caper was denied a clear run but I was happy to see Sound Of Cannons show what he was capable of. Internationaldream drifted like a barge out to 50s but grabbed place money for us in 3rd advised at 25/1. The top class action continues tomorrow, check out Dave Stevos’ 2020 Goodwood Day 3 Tips for live ITV races below…

Day 3 Goodwood Selections: 1.45pm – Unibet Handicap (Class 2)

With a 1st and a close 2nd from two runs at Goodwood, I am sweet on Celtic Art here. Duke Of Hazzard went very close for us earlier in the week despite not getting a clear run. Connections deserve a change of luck here and David Probert will be keen to make amends. This son of Mastercraftsman is very consistent and he has not finished out of the first two on his last four runs. He makes his handicap debut off 101 and he could prove to be better than that.

The step up to 10f looks sure to suit him judging by how he stayed on late in France last time. That came on heavy but he has winning form on good to firm so the good ground won’t be an issue. He chased Molatham home at York last season (7f gd/fm) going down by a neck off level weights. That horse is now a G3 winner and rated 112, so 101 should be workable on that evidence. His pedigree suggests this new distance will bring out more improvement and at odds of 14/1 Celtic Art is the e/w NAP of the day.

2020 Goodwood Day 3 Tips: 2.15pm – Richmond Stakes (Group 2)

Only 7 go to post in this 6f Group 2 and the one I like is the rag, Talbot. This horse showed a smart turn of foot to win on debut at Lingfield (5f). The form looks decent and that was the only time Oisin Murphy has been on board. He is back in the plate today and hopefully things go a bit more smoothly than they did last time in the Super Sprint at Newbury.

The horse that Talbot beat into 2nd at Lingfield was runner up in that race and Talbot was 6L back in 11th. That doesn’t tell the whole story though. Talbot was down on his nose coming out of the stalls and was on the wide outside with no cover. All things considered he did well to get within 6L of the winner and this step back up to 6f should suit at a track like Goodwood. If he breaks well he could outrun his massive odds of 33/1.

ITV Live Selections: 2.45pm – Gordon Stakes (Group 3)

English King will be looking to restore his reputation in this 12f Group 3. Fancied by many to win the Derby, this son of Camelot ran with credit but could only manage 5th behind the impressive Serpentine. He is a very short price today and while it would be no surprise were he to return to form and win this on the snaff, I am taking him on with Khalifa Sat.

The Derby runner up was nearly a length in front of English King and Mogul that day, a sweet result for Tom Marquand. Andrew Balding keeps the faith with Marquand here and he gets on well with this son of Free Eagle. He is an uncomplicated type who will race prominently and he might even try and make all if he gets an uncontested lead. I think Khalifa Sat looks a shade overpriced at 13/2 and a small win bet is advised.

2020 Goodwood Day 3 Tips: Khalifa Sat win @ 13/2

2020 Goodwood Day 3 Tips: 3.15pm – Nassau Stakes (Group 1)

The big race of the day at Goodwood on Thursday is the Nassau Stakes. A 10f contest for fillies, unfortunately only 7 go to post. Last year’s shock winner Deirdre is back to try and repeat the trick and Oisin Murphy rides. He knows this filly well and he will try to deliver her late and fast. Hopefully he enjoys a clearer passage than he got in the Sussex Stakes on Kameko. Fancy Blue heads the market and she won for us in France earlier this month.

By Deep Impact, she is a very talented filly and she gets a nice chunk of weight from her elders. 3yos had won 5 of the last 6 renewals before Deirdre’s win last year (5yo) so the stats are in Fancy Blue’s favour. Nazeef is another fascinating runner and she took the scalp of Billesdon Brook for a second time at Newmarket. Magic Wand and Queen Power are others to note but I think this race is between the top 3 or 4 horses in the betting. The prices look about right so I am keeping my powder dry here. No bet.

2020 Goodwood Day 3 Tips: No Bet

ITV Live Selections: Goodwood 3.45pm – Nursery Handicap (Class 2)

The final live race of the day on ITV is a 7f nursery handicap. The one I’ll be taking a punt on at a big price here is Study The Stars for Sylvester Kirk and David Egan. This son of Due Diligence ran poorly over today’s trip on his debut at Kempton. He shaped a lot better switched to good ground and dropped to 6f on his next two starts. He was 3rd at Windsor, beat 5L and shaping as though a step up to 7f would suit. Kirk’s inmate kept on nicely for the same position at Chepstow next time and was only 1.75L behind the winner.

He earned a rating of 66 for those efforts and that could be a workable mark. The winner of his race at Windsor went on to win next time out, as did another three of his rivals. His dam won at trips ranging from 6f to 14f so his pedigree suggests that 7f will be fine. He is in off a feather weight of 8 stone here and with David Egan doing the steering he could outrun his odds of 20/1.
