Saturday Evening Belgian Darts Open Tips

James Punt hit form this afternoon firing in four winners from six tips. He’s back to cause the bookies more heartache tonight, his Saturday Evening Belgian Darts Open tips are now up on our blog.

Rob Cross vs. Mike de Decker

De Decker will not have enjoyed the draw as he has never beaten Cross in four attempts. That isn’t a great surprise as Cross is the better player. Cross is in good form having won eight of his last ten matches. He is 24-10 across their four previous matches, including a 6-1 win back in May of this year.

De Dekker hit an 11 dart leg to win his opener yesterday but the other five legs were all over 15 darts and there was nothing there to worry Cross.

Jonny Clayton vs. Keane Barry

Like Cross, Jonny Clayton has a 4-0 H2H over Barry. It isn’t quite as dominant as it looks, however, and Barry took him to a deciding set in the World Championship back in December. In their best of 11 leg matches it is 18-9 to The Ferret.

Barry played well when beating Danny Baggish 6-2 last night, averaging 96.6, bettered only by Ross Smith and Andrew Gilding. He has the ability to cause Clayton problems, but the Welshman has won seven of his nine second round ET matches this year.

Clayton is the 1.36 favourite and he should win but there is little value here.

Dimitri van den Bergh vs. Andrew Gilding

Gilding held his nerve to beat Simon Whitlock 6-5 last night. That puts him 30th on the provisional European Championship qualifying table, so not yet safe. A win here and he should be. However, he is facing the Belgian number 1 in Belgium, on a Saturday night and the local beers are strong.

Dimitri is not in his best form, losing four of his last ten, but he did reach the final in the latest euro tour event. He achieved that without playing that well. Four of his five matches saw averages under 93, reasonable, but not the sort of standard that gets you to a final. Winning ugly is a useful skill of course and he is capable of much better.

Good Gilding Display

I didn’t know what to expect from Gilding last night after a long time away from competitive action, but he played very well in a high pressure match. He hit five 180s and was 60% on the doubles. More of that and he will be hard to beat. He will have the crowd on his back, but he will give Van den Bergh a hard time.

Their H2H record is close, 4-3 to Dimitri, but it is the Belgian who won the last three, all 6-2. Only one of their seven matches has gone beyond nine legs. He hasn’t faced this new, improved Andrew Gilding however.

Van den Bergh is the 1.61 favourite with Gilding 2.40. Being the home crowd favourite can go one of two ways. The crowd lifts you and drags your opponent down, or it puts pressure on the home favourite to win and they get a bit tight. I’ll take a chance that it is the latter tonight and we get a proper surprise.

Saturday Evening Belgian Darts Open tips: 1 point Andrew Gilding to win -1.5 legs @ 3.25 with Ladbrokes

Peter Wright vs. Niels Zonneveld

Zonneveld beat a very under par Alan Soutar 6-2 yesterday, but it was a pretty poor match from both players and there was nothing to suggest that Wright will have any trouble here. Wright is 5-0 against Zonneveld and in their best of 11 leg matches the score is 24-9.

Saturday Evening Belgian Darts Open tips: 1 point Peter Wright to win -2.5 legs @ 1.65 with Ladbrokes

Joe Cullen vs. Dennis Nilsson

Cullen has won eight of his last ten matches but lost two of the last three, so it’s hard to say what kind of form he is inThose last three saw sub 90 averages and the kind of form that took him to the title in ET10, and the semi-final of ET11, two weeks ago was absent.

Nilsson beat Kevin Doets 6-2 yesterday. It was a decent performance, not great but enough to suggest he can at least get a few legs off Cullen. The last time he reached the last 32 on the ET, he took Jose de Sousa to a deciding leg.

Saturday Evening Belgian Darts Open tips: 1 point Dennis Nilsson to win +2.5 legs @ 2.50 with Ladbrokes, Betfred

Michael van Gerwen vs. Kim Huybrechts

The H2H record is 27-9 to MVG but Kim won their last meeting last October and that was after 17 consecutive wins for Van Gerwen. There is a gulf in class here, but Kim will have the crowd on his side, and that can rattle MVG if Huybrechts can stay in the game.

MVG is the 1.28 favourite, Huybrechts 4.00. MVG is often worth taking on, especially now as he is not so hot on the big shots, but is Kim playing well enough to think he can rise to the occasion? Not really. He has been beating the ordinary players recently and you have to go back to the middle of June when he averaged 107 when beating Peter Wright 6-0 in a players championship quarter final.

Good A-Game

There is still a very good A game in there, but we haven’t really seen it in the last couple of months. I am tempted by 4.00, but just not enough. MVG has played nine second round matches and only lost two, both in the last three events, but you could make a better case for them and in fact both were tipped up here. I’ll sit this one out, especially after Huybrechts less than stellar display yesterday.

Adrian Lewis vs. Boris Krčmar

I have no idea of what we will get from Adrian Lewis. He won PC20 in July and he has won three of the following five matches but failed to average over 90 in any of them. His wife has been ill again, and the darts have had to take a back seat.

If he has been back on the board and is well prepared, he wins, but if he is throwing sub 90 stuff Boris is more than capable of winning. He needs the win as he sits in 34th place in the Euro Tour O.O.M. and a place in the finals is up for grabs. Lewis is 4-0 with Krčmar but this is a no bet for me.

Danny Noppert vs. Madars Razma

Both players are safely through to the finals and this is just a nice chance to pick up more ranking points for two players who are having a good season.

Their H2H record is 3-1 to Noppert and Madars’ only win came back in 2018. Noppert is the heavier scorer by some margin, but Razma is a very effective player who gets the most out of his game.

Noppert is one of the winning most players in the game this season with a win rate of 73%. He has, however, fallen at the first fence in the last three euro tour events, usually with my money on his back. He is not handicapped with the same burden this weekend and he should win.

Noppert is the 1.30 favourite so no great value against a stubborn opponent.
